I like to have my messages sorted as they arrive into my INBOX. The spam goes to the "delete" file and the messages from my friends go to my "friends" folder. Here is how my Inbox looks when filtering messages using Outlook Express.

Open Outlook Express... Then open tool>message rules>mail

Check as indicated then click on "Contains people" and use address book to select the people from your address book  that you wish to have come to this  box. Then click on "specified" and put in the name of the new folder that you need to have these emails move to. Close everything. You can move the folder to be a subfolder of any of the local folders existing.

I have a list of separate folders under my Inbox. They are: friends, ebay, lenexa, seniornet, etc. Each of these will get my designated "from" as indicated in the process above.

Dealing Objectionable Emails into the Delete File

To make certain that objectionable emails go straight to the delete folder. Do

this: check the From, the Subject and the Message boxes in the Conditions section.

Then enter the words or phrases that you find objectionable into the form that pops up when you click Specific Words in the third rule description above. See below:

When your list is finished and you will find that fewer of the objectionable emails will stop at your inbox. They will instead go directly to your delete folder. As time goes on, you may find other words to add to your collection. These folks can be very creative.
